It happened in Hong Kong on April 4 2017.  Sotheby's Auction House sold the world's most expensive diamond.  The Pink Star, a 59.60 carat stone, went for 71.2 million dollars.  The new owner, notable jeweller Chow Tai Fook, renamed it the CPF Diamond after his late father.  His winning bid set a world record for a jewel sold at auction.
